The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has said it is investigating itself for fraud in its Police Character Certificate (PCC) procurement processes.
Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), issued a statement on Thursday announcing the development and requesting FIJ’s help in the probe.
His statement was a reaction to FIJ’s undercover investigation exposing corruption and loopholes in the process. FIJ’s investigation had detailed how policemen fleece members of the public and issue certificates without biometric checks.
One of the successful beneficiaries of this scheme was a Kirikiri prison inmate whom FIJ presented as though in need of a PCC to go to Ghana.

Reacting a day after the report, the FPRO said, “This has been brought to our notice. We have instituted an investigation into this case immediately. We will, however, reach out to you in the course of our investigation. Relate directly with the FPRD FHQ to unravel the matter. We expect more information from you via our official email, Pressforabuja@police.gov.ng or directly sms to my line.
“The police will address this matter perfectly and update Nigerians. Thanks.”

Meanwhile, during the course of our investigation, FIJ called, texted and made efforts to reach Adejobi via X (formerly Twitter), but he did not respond.
