The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annex in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State, has returned N2 million that its officers stole from Olawale Iyanda, a businessman.

Yinka Sanni, Iyanda’s lawyer, visited the FCID office on Monday in the stead of his client, who was still receiving treatment for injuries suffered when policemen brutalised him in his apartment on August 12.

At the FCID office, the police identified Commander Kalu, the head of the team that invaded Iyanda’s house, and the PoS merchant who aided the extortion.

FIJ gathered that the police detained Kalu and handed the money over to Sanni.

They also asked that he return with Iyanda to the station on Wednesday.

This development comes 24 hours after FIJ reported how Kalu and his men brutalised Iyanda and detained him for hours before taking his N2 million.

While narrating the incident to FIJ, Iyanda said, “Their boss, whom I later learnt was called Kalu, was spitting on my face and punching me. Meanwhile, another man with them dragged my private part for over 10–15 seconds, saying I was trying to spoil their operation. Another person tightened the handcuffs on my wrists to the point of almost breaking them, while one other man, who was armed, choked me from behind the seat since I was sitting at the front.

“They beat, tortured and dehumanised me throughout the ride to Ikoyi. At some point, I started screaming, ‘Kidnappers, kidnappers,’ and that was when they began beating me all over again.”

Both Iyanda and Sanni confirmed to FIJ that they got the money back from the police.

The victim said he was not in the right frame of mind to go to the station, as both his body and head had not healed from the assault he suffered. He also said the police begged him to delete a video of the incident online.

Meanwhile, Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), reacted via an X post on Tuesday morning. He wrote, “This is totally condemned. The FHQ has taken it up. Necessary action is being taken.”
