Dangote Fisheries Company Ltd. and 91,193 others may soon be permanently delisted from the register of companies by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The CAC revealed this in a public notice issued on Wednesday.
“This is to inform the general public that the commission pursuant to its powers contained in Section 692 (3) (4) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act No. 3 2020, intend to strike off from the register, names of defunct or dormant companies that have not filed annual returns for a period of ten years,” the notice read in part.
The agency had given the non-compliant companies 30 days to respond to a strike-off notice.

Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, and the late Sani Gote, a former vice president of the group, are the two directors on the publicly available profile of Dangote Fisheries, which became a legal entity on June 7, 1985.
Dangote Group operates a list of investment portfolios that cut across cement, oil and gas, sugar, fertiliser, rice, salt, and fisheries, among others. Not much is known about the fishery company, however.

According to the CAC, these companies have failed to file annual returns for 10 years in disregard of the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020.
Concerned companies have 90 days to regularise their status by filing all outstanding annual returns to avoid being deleted.
OTHER NOTABLE STRIKE-OFF CANDIDATES
FIJ found that some of the companies affected are in operation despite failing to comply with regulatory directives over the years.
Among them is the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, the umbrella body of employers in the organised private sector. Its last major activity was the 2024 annual general meeting held on July 16 in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Some Nigerian university-owned companies have also failed to file their annual returns. These include Bendel University (now Ambrose Alli University) Communication Enterprises, University of Port-Harcourt Press Ltd., Ogun State University Investment Company Ltd. and University of Sokoto Press Ltd.
Any company delisted by the commission is considered dissolved in the eye of the law and disallowed from conducting any business in the country.
