Nosakhare Osahon, a Nigerian living overseas, has accused Anthony Obaze, an Edo State self-proclaimed real estate agent, of refusing to refund his N6 million since 2020 after selling a disputed piece of land to him.

Osahon told FIJ that Obaze, who “operates without respect for people”, and Terry Obaze, his brother, who is a policeman , work in sync to hold people hostage.

He said that he paid N6 million in November 2020 to Anthony Obaze on behalf of his elder brother, who was based outside Nigeria at the time, for a piece of land measuring 100 by 200 feet at Obayantor in Benin City, without knowing that there was an issue with the land.

The payment evidence

Osahon said that before he paid for the land, he consulted the brothers for clarity on how they acquired the land, but they claimed their father bequeathed it to them.

“But immediately after I paid for the land, they asked me to build a fence around the land. Such a suggestion made no sense to me because I had a farm close to the area, and there was no need for that,” Osahon told FIJ.

Osahon said Anthony would later inform him that the reason he asked him to make a fence around the land was because a woman was disputing the ownership of the land with them.

Osahon stated that after some time, Anthony decided to put a fence halfway on the land with the expectation that he would finish it up himself.

To resolve potential future problems, Osahon said he contacted the woman the Obaze brothers mentioned but was stunned by her claims.

According to Osahon, the woman said she had the certificate of ownership of the land. He said he asked her to show up for a meeting to understand what was happening, but she turned him down.

“When we went to the Edo State Police Criminal Investigative Department, we were asked how we ended up doing business with Anthony because he is notorious for this and brags about it,” Osahon recalled.

“I wrote to the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer on the matter but got no response. His brother is a police officer who conspires with him to defraud people under the guise of selling land in Edo State.

“I have requested my money from Anthony, but he’s unwilling to refund me. His brother has since blocked me, but I want my money back more than ever.”

When FIJ called Anthony Obaze for comments on the matter, he threatened to sue this reporter, saying he knew of no Nosakhare, nor did the reporter do business with him.
