Sulton Hamzat, a Lagos State resident, has narrated how Dana Air held on to his N131,544 after a Lagos to Abuja round-trip flight he booked was cancelled by the airline.

Hamzat told FIJ that he had booked the flight with the airline on April 16 with the hope of flying to Abuja on April 30 and returning to Lagos on the same day.

“While I was preparing for the Abuja trip, I received a message from Dana Air on April 25 that the flight had been cancelled,” said Hamzat.

“The airline then went on to state in the message that the cancellation was as a result of a suspension they had received from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“On April 26, I received yet another message from the airline. This time, I was asked to send an email to them, stating my booking reference code, a valid means of identification and my account number so that my N131,544 could be refunded to me.

“Since sending the email to Dana Air like they advised, my money has still not been sent to me. I sent the email on June 3.”

Hamzat further told FIJ that he had since made several phone calls and sent many emails to the airline, but its officials would only acknowledge them without telling him when he would get his money back.

“In this present economy, N131,544 could do a lot,” he said. “I just want them to return my money. It’s been nearly four months.”

FIJ sent an email to Dana Air for a reaction to the passenger’s complaint on Friday morning, but it had not been responded to.

A message sent to the airline’s WhatsApp complaints line had also not been responded to at press time.
