Martins Fanen, a Benue State resident, has successfully withdrawn the N20,000 after FIJ reported on how the money was stuck in his Parallex Bank account since July.
Fanen was able to withdraw the money on Friday, two days after FIJ reported his unsuccessful attempts to withdraw the money sent to his account on July 23.
“Many thanks. After your story, the bank reached out and offered to change the account to a tier 3 savings account to enable me to access my funds. Once again, thank you for the great work you guys keep doing,” Fanen wrote to FIJ on Friday.
“All this while, they knew they could set me up a savings account and move the money there, but they never did that until you guys intervened. Both accounts are now showing active though they advised me not to use the current account until it’s sorted out,” he added.

When Fanen first contacted Parallex Bank, he learnt that the current account, where the money was transferred to, had become dormant because it had been inactive for over a year.
The bank had requested that he submit certain documents to regain access to his account and the N20,000 balance, but the problem persisted despite doing as instructed.
A female customer care representative of Parallex Bank told FIJ that the delay was from the bank of the current account holders that Fanen had provided as references. She added that the customer could only receive money into that account but would not be able to withdraw any funds.
The bank later reached out to Fanen, after FIJ’s story, to propose an alternative that would allow him to withdraw the money from his account.
