The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Adejuwon Soyinka, a journalist with the Conversation Africa, who was arrested on Sunday morning at an airport in Lagos.
This was confirmed in a post on X by Dayo Aiyetan, the Executive Director of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR).
Aiyetan wrote on his X page at 1:36 pm that Soyinka has been released by the security agency in Lagos.

“Thank you everyone. Juwon Soyinka has just been released by @OfficialDSSNG in Lagos,” he wrote.
Soyinka was arrested at about 5:40 am after arriving Nigeria from the United Kingdom. He was apprehended by the DSS officials and then taken into custody.
FIJ can’t confirm at press time why the security agency had arrested and detained Soyinka. The DSS has not shared if there was any condition for his release.
Phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp messages and an email sent to Peter Afunnaya, the spokesperson of the DSS had not been responded to at press time.

With his arrest, Soyinka joins a list of journalists hounded by the Nigerian government.
‘Fisayo Soyombo, the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) was released on bail by the police after turning himself in at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) on August 14.
Similarly, Daniel Ojukwu, a reporter with FIJ was abducted by the police in May and spent 10 days in detention before his release. As part of his bail conditions, Ojukwu has to travel from Lagos to Abuja every two weeks
