Dana Air has refunded its N129,600 indebtedness to Henry Babatunde, a Lagos-based civil servant, after the airline suspended operations in April.

The refund was made five days after FIJ reported Babatunde’s cancelled flight and the months-long delay in returning his money. Babatunde confirmed the refund to FIJ via text message on Wednesday.

“Thank you very much, FIJ. I can confirm the receipt of my money from Dana Air,” he said.

Like many others affected by the airline’s suspension, Babatunde had been trying to secure his refund ever since his flight was cancelled.

He had booked a round trip flight from Lagos to Abuja in April. He got wind of the airline’s suspension a day to his scheduled return date. This forced him to use a last-minute alternative that cost twice the cost of his actual flight.

Before FIJ’s intervention, the closest Babatunde got to a refund came after he called out the airline on social media. Even then, his refund process dragged on.

Kingsley Ezenwa, Dana Air’s communication consultant, attributed the delay to understaffing.

He told FIJ that the airline had been forced to assign five people’s work to one person, which slowed down the refund process. He assured that all refunds would be handled.

Five days after FIJ’s intervention, Babatunde received his refund.

Babatunde is just one of many customers who received their refund after FIJ’s involvement. On Wednesday, FIJ also reported that Bunmi Omotosho, an Abuja civil servant, received N274,690 three days after her case was reported.
