Security agencies have failed to stop terrorists from vandalising the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330 Kilovolt transmission line only three weeks after its repair.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, shared this via his X account on Sunday.

Makama stated that the terrorists blew up the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) infrastructure with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the early hours of Sunday.

The destruction of the transmission line has once again plunged parts of Maiduguri and neighbouring areas into complete darkness. It was not the first time terrorists targeted the line.

Boko Haram Destroys Damaturu-Maiduguri Transmission Line Three Weeks After RestorationIn the early hours of Sunday, suspected Boko Haram terrorists once again destroyed the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line, only three weeks after it had been restored by the TCN https://t.co/XK6BRmFSKl— Zagazola (@ZagazOlaMakama) September 22, 2024

“In the early hours of Sunday, suspected Boko Haram terrorists once again destroyed the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line, only three weeks after it had been restored by the TCN,” Makama’s post reads in part.

“According to reports, the attackers used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to blow up the facility around 2 am, plunging Maiduguri and surrounding areas back into darkness. This marks a repeated targeting of the critical infrastructure by insurgents.”

Suspected terrorists vandalised the transmission line three weeks after the TCN repaired it. The reason for the prior repair was that the same vandals had once destroyed it.

Makama had criticised the TCN for publicly announcing the transmission line repair on September 4.

The TCN unprofessionally announces that it has successfully restored bulk power supply through the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line. This info is not only counter productive but also a direct announcement to the terrorists to come back and destroy the facility. pic.twitter.com/BImCEzg15z— Zagazola (@ZagazOlaMakama) September 4, 2024

“The TCN unprofessionally announces that it has successfully restored bulk power supply through the Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line,” Makama had stated.

“This info is not only counter productive but also a direct announcement to the terrorists to come back and destroy the facility.”

Sure enough, the terrorists returned to vandalise the line.

However, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is responsible for protecting facilities like the transmission line, and not the TCN.

The Nigeria and Civil Defence Corps Act of 2007 states this.

“The corps shall maintain 24-hour surveillance over infrastructures, sites and projects for the Federal, State and Local Government,” a section of the Act reads.

Nigeria’s military combating insurgents and terrorists also failed to watch over this transmission line as an opportunity to protect it and neutralise terrorists.

The TCN had not committed any infringement by announcing that it had done its job.
