Casafina Development, a real estate company, has refunded Kemi Richardson (pseudonym), an accountant who had been requesting a N560,000 repayment on a piece of land he tried to buy in 2019.
Richardson got this repayment less than 24 hours after FIJ reported the company’s negligence since 2021.
The accountant spoke with FIJ on Wednesday and shared a receipt confirming the refund from Casafina.

On Tuesday, FIJ reported how Richardson paid Casafina N800,000 upfront for a plot of land in 2019.
The total cost of the land was N3.5 million in instalments, but Richardson opted he could no longer afford paying the remaining amount.

When he requested a refund in 2021, Casafina said it would take a maximum of 40 work days to finalise the refund process, but they would later delay the payment for three more years.
According to the agreement Richardson had with the company, Casafina would deduct 30% of the N800,000. This meant that he would get a N560,000 refund.
When FIJ reached out to Casafina, they responded on November 6 that they would communicate a new payment date to Richardson.
“Their agent who called me mentioned Friday, or Monday at the latest. But they refused to put that in the email they sent to me,” Richardson told FIJ on Tuesday.
After the refund on Wednesday, Richardson told FIJ he was was happy to get his refund, even though he had incurred a significant loss due to the delay.
“I lost 30% of N800,000 upon requesting for refund. Secondly, inflation means the N560,000 today is way less in value compared to N560,000 of three years ago,” Richardson said.
“I am happy it’s closed and I can move on to other projects.”
