An Ekiti State Magistrate Court granted Dele Farotimi bail on Friday morning.
Farotimi’s bail grant was made public in an X post on Friday by Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters.
The details of the bail conditions include: a 30 million bond, two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner, a submission of his passport and a prohibition of him granting media interviews.
Sowore had earlier posted that before Farotimi’s bail was granted, the Magistrate Court and the prosecutor had complained that they did not feel safe due to a large crowd that had gathered around the courtroom premises.
Sowore also stated that the Magistrate Court ruled that Olumide Fusika, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the head of Farotimi’s defence team, should be prohibited from appearing before the magistrate court.
While debates were ongoing about Fusika’s eligibility to appear before a magistrate court, Sowore noted that the magistrate received a phone call notification and “promptly retired” to his chambers to answer it.
Before Farotimi’s bail was granted, it was slightly delayed as Sowore claimed that the magistrate clamed that they left the ruling on Farotimi’s bail application at home.
Farotimi’s bail would have been granted since December 9, but the Magistrate Court adjourned his bail hearing until October 20 because the magistrate refused to grant him an oral bail.
He was granted bail orally for his case against the Inspector-General of Police at the Ekiti Federal High Court on October 9.
