Timothy Oyegbile, a retired civil servant in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has accused Olalekan Soyinka Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá, also known as Mr Jawonsi, of refusing to repay his investment capital of N1 million.

Oyegbile told FIJ that Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá did not keep his word on several occasions and that Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá did not show up despite being patient with him when it was uncomfortable.

He said he invested N2 million with Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá’s Breezing River Entertainment Limited on July 28, 2022, after he and his wife listened to a radio jingle on Splash FM.

In the radio jingle, Oyegbile said, Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá promised to pay investors a 25 per cent return on their investment immediately after they partnered with him and to return their investment capital after 12 months.

“Before investing with him, my wife and I visited him at his office in Abeokuta, where we asked him a few questions,” Oyegbile told FIJ.

“He asked me to fill out a form, which I did. There, my wife and I signed a document, and I then made a N2 million transfer to him.”

Seven days after investing with Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá’s Breezing River Entertainment Limited, Oyegbile did not receive the promised return on investment. He then called Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá to enquire why the funds were being delayed, but Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá blamed it on a poor network. He would later pay N500,000 on August 4, 2022.

Oyegbile said Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá sent him a text a week before July 27, 2023, to confirm whether he would be reinvesting or taking his capital. Oyegbile responded that he would take N1 million out of his investment capital alongside its N250,000 interest and reinvest N1 million.

“When I started pressuring him, he paid the money in September. This was after giving many excuses. I should have collected everything then and moved on,” Oyegbile said.

Before July 27, Oyegbile texted Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá a reminder of his N1 million capital, which he had reinvested a year earlier, but he got no response. When the deadline elapsed, he called him to find out when he would get his money.

“I am now retired and without means to take care of myself. When I called to ask what was happening as I had not seen a dime, he asked me to wait until October. I asked why he didn’t tell me earlier, but he blamed his inability to pay on the Nigerian economy,” Oyegbile explained.

“I pleaded and asked him to pay me, but he said he owed many people. Towards the end of October, I reminded him we were in October and asked when I would get my money. He said if God spared our lives, he would fulfil his promise, but I have heard nothing from him since then. My wife and I have called him several times, but he didn’t reply.”

When FIJ called Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá on Thursday, he admitted to owing the retired civil servant. He said he owed many people and would pay up soon.

“We plan to start paying all of our investors from January. We will pay him in three instalments. His first payment will be around April,” Ayinla Ẹ̀gbá said.
