A Nigerian living in the United States has accused MyAfrimall, a logistics company based in Lagos State, of keeping her food items after giving her an unsatisfactory condition for picking them up, which was against their initial agreement.

The Nigerian, who wishes to remain anonymous, told FIJ she and MyAfrimall agreed her items would be delivered to Minnesota, near North Dakota, where she resides. However, the company suddenly asked her to get the items in Indianapolis in December.

She said she decided to pay MyAfrimall N218,450 to deliver her items via sea cargo to the United States in September after they agreed her items would be delivered to Minnesota. She had contacted the logistics company after seeing an advertisement on Instagram.

“MyAfrimall stated that delivery was to Minnesota, and my items were all duly labelled Minnesota. Their representative updated me periodically about the status of the items, but at no point did they say I would need to pick them up on the same day of delivery in Minnesota,” she told FIJ.

When the items arrived in the United States, she said MyAfrimall contacted her before Christmas to inform her that the items were ready for pick-up but in Indianapolis.

“I disagreed and asked when it changed from Minnesota to Indianapolis. Afterwards, their representative said they would deliver to Minnesota, but I’d have to pick them up on the same day. However, I do not live in Minnesota, and it would take me three hours by road to get there from where I live,” she said.

“I told her I needed to plan properly and requested advance notice of when the items would arrive, but their representative said they didn’t know the actual date.

“I asked them to give me 24 hours’ notice so I could make adequate preparations for my items, but the representative refused. Instead, she said everyone would need to pick up their items on the same day.”

She said she discovered that MyAfrimall gave those picking up their items in Indianapolis three days to do so, while those in Minnesota had only one day.

When she contacted MyAfrimall after Christmas, they maintained that she must pick up her items on the same day. She asked MyAfrimall to provide evidence that they agreed she would pick up her items on the same day they were delivered, but they couldn’t.

“I have been waiting for feedback, but they haven’t responded. My email, follow-up email and WhatsApp messages haven’t been responded to. I have food items that have been there for five months now, so I will be incurring more losses,” she said.

When FIJ contacted MyAfrimall, a call representative said they had been in talks and would resolve the matter soon.

“Our US team said they’d reach out to her this week. We also contacted her this morning, but she hasn’t responded,” said the representative, who spoke to FIJ on Wednesday.
