Bolanle Idowu, a woman residing in Ibadan, has accused mobile money firm OPay of refusing to refund N90,000 she erroneously transferred to a customer’s account, despite a court ordering a refund.The Ibadan resident told FIJ that she obtained a court order after OPay requested it when she visited their office in December to inform them of what her bank had done.Idowu said her back-and-forth with OPay started on November 30, after she mistakenly transferred N90,000 to a filling station attendant in Ibadan.READ ALSO: After FIJ’s Intervention, OPay Complies With Court Order, Lifts Restriction on Customer’s N3mImmediately after realising she had sent the money to the wrong account, Idowu called an OPay customer care representative to report the issue, but they referred her to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), her bank.“OPay said they would hold on to my money until Monday (December 2). So, I went to my bank, and they sent OPay an email. The following day, I heard nothing, even though OPay received the email and acknowledged it,” Idowu told FIJ.She said she went to Ring Road in Ibadan to request her money after GTBank’s email, but a staff member she met there said OPay would not reverse the funds without a court order.READ ALSO: After FIJ’s Story, OPay Refunds Civil Servant’s N77,000“I didn’t argue but contacted a lawyer in Ibadan, who prepared documents for me to sign. They filed my case and told me to appear in court on December 19. The judge approved my court order that day. The following Monday, December 23, I took the court order to OPay’s office,” she said.“OPay acknowledged it, but despite the court order, they are still holding on to my money. The lawyer wants us to initiate legal action against them, but I can’t.
