This situation raises several red flags that warrant urgent attention from students, parents, and possibly regulatory authorities. Here’s a breakdown of why this appears deeply problematic and may constitute a coordinated extortion scam:

🔍 Breakdown of Concerns:

  1. Massive Total: ₦9,828,000

    • For an induction ceremony, this is an exorbitant amount, especially at a private university where tuition already strains many families.

  2. Suspicious Payment Arrangement

    • All payments are to be sent to a student’s personal bank account (Edosomwan Osazeeme Israel – FCMB 9249926015), not the university’s official account, which is a serious breach of standard protocol.

  3. Lack of Institutional Transparency

    • No signed document or stamped breakdown from the University Bursary, Faculty of Nursing, or Management Office has been provided.

    • There’s no open tender or vendor accountability for services like catering, gowns, brochure printing, etc.

  4. NMCN Representative Fee – ₦1,000,000?

    • The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) does not charge that much for representation at student inductions. This amount appears highly inflated and questionable.

  5. Departmental Project – ₦200,000

    • What exactly is this “project”? No clarity, no proposal, no budget attached.

  6. “Miscellaneous” – ₦500,000

    • A vague and unaccounted-for amount — often a smokescreen for embezzlement or misappropriation.

  7. No Audit or Oversight

    • With funds entering an individual student’s account, there’s no audit trail, no financial oversight, and no way to track expenditures.

⚠️ Why It Could Be a Scam:

  • University funds must go through an institutional account. Period.

  • A student’s account is not a legally accountable custodian of funds for any school-sanctioned program.

  • No receipts from licensed vendors or school-backed authorization accompanies this demand.

  • The fact that students are being pressured to comply under the guise of “committee approval” is coercive.
