The Foundation for Investigative Journalism and Social Justice (FIJ) has announced the selection of 10 outstanding early-career journalists as the first cohort of the Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Journalists.

With support from the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, the fellowship is open to early-career journalists with an interest in investigative, multimedia and data-driven reporting.

Following a competitive application process that attracted 99 applicants from across the country, the following 10 fellows were selected for their passion and potential to pursue journalism that informs, empowers and holds power to account:

Launched in memory of the late journalist Adejumobi Adegbite, the fellowship aims to strengthen ethical and investigative journalism in Nigeria by equipping emerging journalists with vital skills, tools and mentorship.

The one-year fellowship kicks off with a three-day physical session in Lagos from July 30 to August 1, 2025, and will run across four quarters with a combination of in-person and virtual learning sessions. The selected fellows will benefit from expert-led training in investigative reporting, data journalism, ethical storytelling and multimedia production. The programme also provides mentorship, mobile journalism tools and logistical support to ensure full participation.

The Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Journalists will train 30 journalists over three years, with a focus on building capacity for impactful, ethical, and socially responsible journalism in Nigeria.
