The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has restored Ibadan resident Matthew Okusanya’s electricity supply after wrongfully disconnecting it due to an unproven bypass in July 8.

His electricity supply had been disconnected for up to two weeks despite having a working prepaid meter and complete bills. IBEDC officials refused to accept Okusanya’s proof of his connection. The DisCo penalised Okusanya with a N310,000 bill for the alleged bypass.

A day after FIJ contacted the IBEDC office at Oluwo and published its story on July 25, IBEDC officials returned to Matthew’s house and reconnected the severed line, ignoring the N310,000 penalty they had placed on him.

Okusanya told FIJ that when they connected the wires on Friday, the power wasn’t restored because the meter entered a ‘tampered code’, but they returned on Tuesday and fixed it.

“Thank you once again for your support,” Okusanya told FIJ in a text message.

“I’m writing to inform you that as of today, the electricity supply to my father’s residence has finally been restored. IBEDC officials came to reconnect the power without further harassment or demands.”
