M. M. Gadzama, the personal assistant to Benjamin Okolo, the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID), has called to threaten Aliyu Abba, a Kaduna State-based businessman who exposed him and his team for extorting N750,000 from him.
Abba told FIJ on Wednesday evening that he missed Gadzama’s call during the day and called him back at about 7:59 pm.
The first call came after FIJ spoke with the FID Public Relations Office.

When the businessman returned the call, they spoke for two minutes. Abba said Gadzama called to threaten him.

“He said he learnt I had submitted a petition against him and spoken to the press, but that would not stop him from coming after me or continuing the investigation,” Abba narrated to FIJ.
“I told him that I was not trying to stop the investigation but to get my money back and have an unbiased team look into it.”

FIJ earlier reported how Gadzama and two other FID policemen, Sunday Aboji and Matthew Abu, launched an investigation into Abba after Sajith Madhu, an Indian national, accused him of failing to deliver farm produce.
The businessman said he presented evidence to the police to clear his name, but the three men demanded money to close the case against him.
At 9:22 pm on Wednesday, Gadzama called again, but the businessman did not take his call.

FIJ ran his number through Truecaller, a phone number verification application. The result came back as M. M. Gadzama SP.
When FIJ called Gadzama, the policeman claimed he never called Abba. FIJ repeated to him that the phone number that called the businessman was the same one that facilitated the phone call at that moment.
“I am supervising a team, but I am not the IPO. I have never interviewed him or called him in my life,” Gadzama told FIJ. “I do not speak with complainants or suspects, so it’s possible that it was not my number that called him.”
When FIJ called Abu, the policeman refused to comment on him demanding money from Abba.
The FCID PRO office has promised to investigate the allegation.
