Ifo Local Government Area (LGA), one of the most strategic local government areas in Ogun State, has received at least N7.8 billion from the federal government in one year, as part of its Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funding.

Despite this huge inflow of funds, the Agbado Oja Road, a key route that connects Opeilu, Oke Aro and the Lateef Jakande Train Station, has remained impassable.

Agbado Oja Road, comprising Opeilu, Oke Aro, is the only one connecting many residents of the town to the Federal Government-owned train station and neighbouring Iju-Ishaga in Lagos State.

The road sits on the border of Lagos and Ogun.

FIJ found the details of what the LGA received on the data transparency website published by BudgIT.

UNAVAILABLE FINANCIAL RECORDS

Recent data on the expenditures of this LGA are unavailable. The publicly available ones are from a 2023 consolidated report and a statutory and domestic report published in 2022.

The federal government has been demanding more transparency at all levels of government for years.

These reports revealed that the LGA generated at least N131 million in internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2023 and it had a revenue amounting to N3.1 billion in December 2022.

Out of the N3.1 billion, N2.97 billion was received from the federal government as statutory allocation.

For many years, residents have complained about the terrible state of Agbado-Oja Road and the inner roads around the area, but they have been left unattended.

Recently, Dapo Abiodun, the state governor, listed a part of the road as one of his administration’s completed projects even though the road is impassable.

FIJ reported in April that residents of the area are having a hard time accessing their homes and businesses due to the deplorable condition of the road.

FIJ’s scroll through the Facebook page of Idris Olamilekan Kusimo, the chairman of Ifo LGA, revealed nothing about plans to fix the road soon.
