Ikpeama Emmanuel, a 200-level student at Michael Okpara University, has accused Interswitch of failing to reverse the N25,500 meant for the payment of part of his school fee.

The 200-level student told FIJ that on May 14, he used Quickteller, a product of Interswitch, to pay his school fee balance of N25,500 as instructed by his school.

When he initiated the transaction, he received a message acknowledging its success from Gomoney, his bank.

However, Quickteller failed to complete the transaction.

He also said that when he contacted Interswitch’s customer support, he was told the transaction was still processing and assured his money would be reversed within 24 to 72 hours. The transaction failed, and no reversal came.

He was running out of time, as he needed to pay the school fee balance so he could sit for his exams. At this point, he had no other alternative but to take a loan from his bank.

“I waited, but no refund came. I had to take a loan from my bank and pay the fee via bank card on the Quickteller platform, hoping to repay the loan when I got the reversal,” said Ikpeama.

He kept contacting Interswitch to refund his N25,500, but they failed.

“At some point, they claimed to have made the reversal, and my bank asked me to request a session ID from them. They provided one, but my bank said it was invalid. I contacted them again, and they told me the reversal failed, while assuring me they would initiate a manual reversal. However, I have yet to get my refund,” he said.

“I am tired and frustrated. I am a 200-level student struggling through school, and that money means a lot to me.”

He also told FIJ that he had exchanged over 55 emails and had several phone calls with them but every attempt to get them to refund his N25,500 had been futile.

On Monday, FIJ emailed Interswitch, but they did not respond.
