Five students of the Nigerian Law School (NLS), Yola Campus, remain in captivity, four days after their abduction along the Wukari-Benue Expressway.

FIJ gathered that six of them were kidnapped in Benue State on Saturday. While one of the law scholars has since regained freedom, five are still at the mercy of their abductors.

Another student in the NLS Yola Campus confirmed this to FIJ on Wednesday.

The students were on their way from Onitsha, Anambra, to resume their law school classes in Adamawa State when they were kidnapped between Benue and Taraba.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers placed a N20 million ransom on each student.

The kidnapped students are Reverend Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel and Obiorah David.

At press time, FIJ couldn’t ascertain which of them regained freedom from the abductors.

When FIJ called Udeme Edet, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command on Wednesday, she stated that the police are working on it.

ā€œI don’t know about any rescue operations because I am not the one in charge of them. But the police are working to bring them back,ā€ Edet told FIJ.

ā€œIf I want to find out, I’ll have to start asking about the operations and probing into operational matters. Only after that will I be able to get more information.ā€

FIJ, also called Abdullah Usman, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, but learnt he had recently passed on.

In August, 20 medical students from the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri attending the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) in Enugu State were kidnapped.

They were released eight days after their abduction. The kidnappers had demanded a N50 milllion ransom.
