Muhammed, a resident of Kano, has accused Air Peace of refusing to refund N597,500 for a flight ticket he purchased in error, despite meeting the airline’s requirements for a refund.

The Kano resident, who wants only his first name published, told FIJ that he purchased a ticket for a Liberian student travelling from Monrovia to Lagos on September 17, but made an error in the student’s name.

According to Muhammed, this error occurred because he frequently booked tickets for multiple students travelling from Liberia to Nigeria and had used a particular student’s name as a default profile for easier processing.

Muhammed said he immediately contacted Air Peace to rectify the mistake, but the airline informed him that the ticket was non-refundable and that they could not edit the name on it.

“I told them it was an error and that I wasn’t defrauding anyone,” Muhammed told FIJ.

“The student whose name I mistakenly used was not travelling. The actual student was at risk of losing their scholarship if the ticket was not refunded.”

Muhammed said when he persisted with his appeals, Air Peace agreed to process a refund but placed conditions on the process. The airline requested specific documentation, including a letter of authorisation from the person whose name appeared on the ticket, along with other supporting documents.

“I complied with these requirements and submitted all the necessary paperwork in September, but I haven’t been refunded. I provided everything they asked for, yet I have not received my money,” Muhammed lamented.

FIJ emailed Air Peace for comments on the matter, but there was no response at press time.

In the last seven days, FIJ has reported twice about Air Peace and how the airline left passengers stranded at Lagos and Abuja airports after repeated flight cancellations.
