Two Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff and Shehu Aliyu Pantagi, a vote buyer, were arrested with over N25 million in Ogun State and Kaduna State ahead of legislative By-elections on Saturday.
The INEC Staff were caught with three political players in a hotel in Iperu, Ogun. They admitted they were INEC staff following orders from their constituency supervisor (a senior INEC official).
While Pantagi was arrested in a Kaduna hotel in the early hours of Saturday, N25,963,000 was caught in his possession. He had planned to use the cash to induce voters.
Pantagi subsequently confessed to committing the crime during police interrogation.

Registered voters in 13 states across Nigeria are voting in polls to elect new representatives in the Senate, House of Representatives, and state houses of assembly on Saturday.
As stated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the by-elections will be held in 16 constituencies.
The elections will take place in Jigawa, Edo, Ogun, Oyo, Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Taraba, Kogi, Niger, Enugu and Zamfara.

The by-elections involve two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo states, five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo states, and nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba and Zamfara states.
The electoral body also stated that the by-elections were caused by the resignation or death of serving members of the national and state assemblies.
