Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, whose chairman was recently accused of ignoring a road project, received at least N2,907,873,020 from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in six months, FIJ has gathered.

Augustine Ogedegbe, the LGA’s chair, made the headlines after Aki Efe Vincent, a resident, accused him of leaving roads in their community in poor condition despite the federal allocations the local government received.

Vincent had questioned what Ogedegbe was doing with the money he received and stated that the smallest fraction would fix the flooded road.

“Now look at this, look at the road, look at the gutter. This is Ogbe Junction,” Vincent had complained.

“The allocation that is coming to Delta State, the one that is coming to Ethiope East, if you take 0.01% out of it, it is enough to tile this road. To whom much is given, much is expected.

“You can’t tell me that I am insulting a local government chairman when I am telling him what he is supposed to do. The money he is receiving from the federal government is enough to solve this problem.”

According to a data transparency website built by BudgIt, FIJ found that Ethiope East received nothing less than N2.9 billion from January to June.

The LGA received N427,149,021 in January, N510,027,676 in February, N494,394,019 in March, N455,569,450 in April, N490,622,325 in May and N530,110,526 in June.

The figures show that some of it could have fixed the flood problem in Ovu Community, a claim Vincent previously made and said he was threatened for.

Meanwhile, in his response to the threats made against Vincent, Ogedegbe did not address what the FAAC allocations received in Ethiope East were used for.

Speaking through Ofua Experience, his Chief Press Secretary, Ogedegbe denied threatening Vincent. The LG chair said that Vincent’s claim was false and malicious. He said it was an attempt to tarnish the image of his government.

Vincent told FIJ on Wednesday that Experience had visited his home, threatening to fight him and scatter the community.
