Koye Kekere-Ekun, an actor and son of Nigeria’s acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), has come under criticism for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s political opponents.
On Friday, Tinubu appointed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting CJN.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the State House in Abuja, had quite a handful of the newly-appointed CJN’s family members in attendance, one of whom was Koye.
As the event went on, Koye took to his official Instagram page, @officiallyk10, to post a picture of himself and his mother and added the caption: The actual best babe! Proud beyond words!

After the ceremony, Taofeek Gawat, an All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter, on X @tfk_gawat, made a post that suggested he was referring to Koye:

Why should he delete anti Tinubu Post? How is that a sin? She’s Nigeria CJN not Tinubu CJN— Tosin.X (@Dontee___) August 23, 2024

That’s the foolishness that thrives in your unoccupied heads“My family benefits from it so I’ll reinforce it with all my heart”That’s exactly the reason for the decadence in the society but you think you’ve said something reasonable. Animal!— Ayomitunde (@macabelee) August 23, 2024

@cephas_asiwaju, yet another X user, made the following post on the issue:
He should delete his anti-Tinubu posts because his mother is now the CJN, an office that is sacred and should not be tied to partisan politics? It is only in this part of the world I see such nasty and crass behavior like this, only in APC. A fourth X user with the handle @danunma100 responded:
Is your brain lost or I don’t know how you people reason. In an ideal place, a CJN should have no political affiliation. Are you saying the acting CJN is an APC puppet ? Do you people see the country as your lagos possession that you can just do anything you feel? It’s a shame— Abubakar akeel (@danunma100) August 23, 2024

A LAGOS LAWYER’S POSITION ON THE ISSUE
Ridwan Oke, a Lagos-based lawyer, subsequently took to his official X handle, @Ridwanullahii, on Saturday, to air his opinion on the matter:

KOYE’S PRO-OBI TWEETS
Koye (Third From Right) at the State House in Abuja.
Past posts made by Koye revealed he was a staunch Peter Obi supporter during the presidential election of February, 2023.
Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, gathered the third highest number of votes.
Here are some of the posts he made during the period:
Papa, mama, pikin. Your vote is your vote. A vote for Obi/Labour Party is exactly that. It will not add to another candidate’s vote. Don’t let these political jobbers online and offline fool you. —February 22, 2023.
Btw, a vote for Peter Obi is a vote for Peter Obi. Don’t let anybody buga you with any fancy politics talk. —February 1, 2023.
It’s very easy to see why the people have rallied behind this man. A new Nigeria is indeed POssible. If this makes me naive, thank you. Let me swim inside naïveté. —March 2, 2023.
I also like that PO gave himself thinking time. No knee-jerk reaction. Took his time, organised his thoughts/strategy, and then addressed the media/Nigerians. —March 2, 2023.

Some of his other Obi posts on X read:
Peter Obi. Compassion, empathy, sincerity, integrity, capacity. What a glorious new dispensation that would be. —March 2, 2023.
The thing is, I feel some people are just voting Labour across board because of the Peter Obi wave. People don’t even know who the Labour candidate is, and he’s really making it tough for Banky (Banky W, the artiste turned politician). So, the appeal makes sense. —February 26, 2023.
The CJN is the head of Nigeria’s judiciary, one of the three arms of government demonstrating separate powers.
Judges, by default, shun partisan politics. However, their family members are not obligated to withdraw from politics.
