Renee Mall, Ikoyi, Lagos, has returned N34,700 to Timothy, a customer who got debited for a declined transaction on April 17.
This followed EQToday’s intervention in the disputed transaction, which was eventually confirmed successful.
Timothy had told EQToday that he was using his Polaris Bank debit card to pay for groceries at the mall’s point of sale (PoS) terminal when he was debited.
A friend who was with him at the mall had to make another payment via a bank transfer due to the failed transaction.

“After Polaris Bank debited my account, the supermarket was not credited. I kept reaching out to my bank so they could reverse the money they debited me for a declined transaction,” he told EQToday.
Then on May 8, his bank told him via messages sent via X and email that the transaction was actually successful. The bank even sent him proof of the successful transaction.
“I got in touch with Renee on May 8, but they initially denied getting the money. I pressured them before they later accepted that the money was with their merchant. I showed them the receipt Polaris Bank sent to me.

When our reporter contacted Bimpe, a staff member at Renee, whom Timothy had been in contact with, she confirmed the incident and said she was about to contact the customer.

Bimpe asked that EQToday furnish her with all the receipts and Timothy’s account details, which our reporter promptly provided on Friday. At 6.03 pm on the same day, Timothy’s Polaris Bank account was credited with the money by Renee Mall.

“They did not message or call. I just received the alert around 6 in the evening,” said Timothy while updating EQToday on the refund status.
