Uche Okechi, Lyvenor Properties’ chief executive, has paid Johnbosco Ayim (not real name), a car dealer living in Lagos, N1 million as part of the balance owed for a black 2013 Toyota Venza.

Okechi made the part payment two months after FIJ reported how Ayim waited in vain for about N3 million after he sold the vehicle to the property businessman in 2023.

“Good evening. This is to inform you that Uche (Okechi) paid N1 million on the 14th of October 2024. The outstanding balance on the car he bought is now N2 million. Thank you,” Ayim told FIJ on Sunday.

Okechi had explained to FIJ that Ayim had engaged in business malpractice and was trying to blackmail him.

Ayim told FIJ a different story in May. He narrated how Okechi refused to pay about N3 million as a balance for the Toyota Venza he bought over 18 months ago.

“Mr Okechi approached me to purchase a Toyota Venza 2013 model at a cost of N7.5 million in January 2023. He agreed to pay the agreed sum of N7.5 million with an initial payment of N3 million, while he would pay the balance within 90 days,” Ayim had told FIJ.

“He paid an initial sum of N3 million, subsequently paid an additional N1 million and later paid N500,000 in October 2023 for a car bought in January 2023. To date, he has only paid N4.5 million out of the N7.5 million, leaving the outstanding  balance to be N3 million.”

Ayim told FIJ that he released the black 2013 Toyota Venza car to Okechi who didn’t make full payment because he trusted him to do the right thing.

FIJ spoke to Okechi in May and he said he intended to pay the balance for the car in June.

Okechi explained that the vehicle Ayim sold to him was faulty. He said that he was under the impression that Ayim sold a fairly new car instead of a broken one. Okechi, however, said he had fixed the car and put it up for sale.

FIJ informed Ayim and encouraged him to wait for Okechi’s June payment.

Ayim called in June to inform FIJ that he had not received the payment. He also did not receive the payment in the first week of July.

When FIJ called Okechi, he said that the new buyer would pay soon and he would send Ayim’s balance in the second week of July.

“No, he has not. He has not made any payment yet,” Ayim told FIJ in the third week of July.
