Kaniz Construction Limited, an Abuja-based real estate firm, has refunded N1.8 million to a telecommunications engineer resident in the city, after ignoring his request for a refund for over a year and six months.

The engineer, who prefers to be anonymous, told EQToday that this expected development came on May 15, when he least expected it, nine months after EQToday intervened.

“Thank you, EQToday, for your support,” said the engineer. “The payment was made to the Federal Housing Authority, the medium through which I paid initially, so the check was paid to the FHA and then credited to my FHA account, from which I could transfer funds.”

Last August, EQToday reported that the engineer accused the real estate firm of failing to refund his down payment after he withdrew from a business deal. The dispute began when the engineer subscribed to one of Kaniz Construction Limited’s two-bedroom apartments through the FHA in March 2022 but pulled out because they would not fulfil their end of the deal.

He said he waited over five months without seeing any progress on the property. This ultimately spurred him into backing off the deal. And despite an assurance that he could get his money if he requested a refund, which he did, no positive outcome until EQToday’s intervention.
