OPay has lifted the restriction it placed on an account belonging to Magnus Adakole (not real name), a Nigerian scholar residing in the United Kingdom (UK).

This came after FIJ reported how the digital bank restricted Adakole’s account on July 27.

“OPay has finally lifted the restriction it placed on my account,” said Adakole in a telephone conversation on Wednesday night.

“Thank you so much, FIJ. I am very grateful. I have also been able to send money to someone from the account, just now.

“Thank you, once again.”

On July 2, OPay placed a restriction on the scholar’s account after he moved N952,363 from his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) and Access Bank accounts to it.

The reason Adakole moved all his money to his OPay account during that period was because OPay permitted customers to make their first three transfers to other banks for free.

The digital bank would, however, term the inflow of funds into his account as abnormal and decide to place a restriction on the account.

With this, he was prevented from gaining access to the money in his account for about two months.
