Overland Airways has refunded N200,000 to Yussuf Ahmed, the human resources (HR) professional whose ticket fee was withheld after an abrupt flight cancellation in May.
The airline refunded Ahmed’s ticket fee on Wednesday, two weeks after FIJ published a report on the withheld money.
“I am writing to inform you that my flight money has been refunded by Overland Airways. Please, accept my unreserved gratitude for your intervention in the matter. Thank you and the FIJ team,” he wrote to FIJ on Thursday afternoon.

The refund
In a previous conversation with FIJ, Ahmed had revealed how he booked a round trip on May 4.
However, on the morning of May 6, when the flight was scheduled to depart from Lagos to Kwara State, Overland Airways informed him that his flight had been cancelled due to operational reasons.
He would then file a refund request on May 9, which was acknowledged by the airline. Despite assurances from Overland Airways, the airline held his ticket fee to ransom, as they kept saying that his refund was being processed.

Frustrated by the month-long delay, Ahmed reached out to FIJ in June. When our reporter contacted Overland Airways for inquiries on the matter, the airline said the refund was in process, and Ahmed’s ban account was credited weeks after.
