Some Federal Government workers with salary accounts at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) who had previously not received their October salaries have now been paid.

FIJ learnt that while some workers with GTB salary accounts were still hopeful, others started getting their pay on Thursday.

On Wednesday, FIJ reported how many FG workers with GTB-based salary accounts had not been paid while their colleagues with accounts in other banks had received their salaries since Monday.

FIJ understands that some of the affected workers cut across different government agencies. Those who spoke with FIJ had expressed frustration over the situation while noting that delays in salary payments had become a regular occurrence for the GTB users among them.

Checks through some Facebook groups for civil servants also showed that some GTBank users who had not been paid had started getting paid. Some of them also confirmed this to FIJ.

One of the affected workers whose agency is under the Federal Ministry of Education, who does not want to be named, told FIJ that she got her salary in the late hours of Thursday.

“I was paid on Thursday. I saw the alert around midnight. I had even called out GTB online when I had not seen my salary while others had been paid their salaries,” the worker told FIJ.

Another affected worker who just got paid said he might have to move his salary account to another bank to avoid experiencing delays in salary payments.

GTB customers have been facing difficulties with their accounts and funds for several weeks due to the bank’s migration to a new core banking system, which began on October 11.

Many customers have encountered service disruptions and challenges accessing their funds, and some have even lost business deals due to these transaction hiccups.
