A Lagos-based passenger has detailed his “horrible” flight experience with United Nigeria Airlines, calling the private airline “irresponsible” after multiple postponements of his flight and “arrogant” for their handling of the postponements.
The passenger told FIJ that on June 24, he booked a United Nigeria Airlines flight from Lagos to Sokoto scheduled for 7am on Wednesday July 3.
However, two days later on June 26, he received an email saying the flight had been shifted by three-and-a-half hours to 10:30 am on the same day “due to operational reasons”.
“To my shock, another three days later, on June 29, United Airlines emailed me again to announce a further three-hour postponement. They had moved the flight to 1:30pm. How did they think a flight I picked because it was for 7am would still be my choice in the afternoon?” the passenger wondered.
“That was when I emailed them. I told them to let me know if they intended to cancel or further reschedule the flight, so that I could find an alternate route to Sokoto. I maintained that if they rescheduled the flight from 1:30pm to any time in the evening, I would be left with no choice but to withdraw from the trip and demand a full refund, knowing it would affect my Sokoto engagements for that day.”
The passenger said the airline emailed him to assure him that the flight would take off at the scheduled time.
“But guess what they did? They rescheduled the flight for the third time without emailing me!
” “I arrived at the airport one hour to take-off time. Would you believe that as of 2:30pm, one full hour after the thriee-rescheduled departure time, we were still stuck at the airport and United Airlines had not communicate anything to us?
“No announcement. One full hour of delay and nobody announced that there was a delay. It wasn’t until I emailed them that they confirmed a rescheduling.
“I got someone to speak with a United Nigeria Airlines staff in Sokoto and that was when I found out they h`ad rescheduled the flight to 3pm. Even at that, the joke of an airline did not fly until 4:50pm. Let that sink: a flight that was listed for 7am ended up departing at 4:50pm, nearly 10 hours after!
“These guys willfully messed with my appointments and made no effort to atone for it — not for the 10-hour disruption to my schedule or for fees I paid to use an airport lounge. Save the pre-scripted responses to my email protestations, they made no passenger-specific effort at penitence. The body language was ‘do your worst!’”
The Twitter handle of United Nigeria Airlines is dotted with paasenger complaints about flight rescheduling and, even worse, abrupt flight canellations without refund of flight fares.
