The Lagos Police Command is set to arraign 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, who confessed to killing 21-year-old Christianah Idowu, his neighbour.

FIJ gathered that the police will put Adeleye before a magistrate at the Magistrate Court, Ogba, on Thursday. There, he will stand trial for Idowu’s murder.

Confirming the development to FIJ, Rita Ozobia, Idowu’s foster mother, sent a text message saying the police invited her to the hearing.

“They just informed me this morning that they are taking the boy to the magistrate court in Ogba today,” Ozobia told FIJ. “I asked if that was the right court to take him, and they said yes.”

Adeleye was the last person to see Idowu alive on August 19 when she stopped by his shop on her way to the University of Lagos, where she worked. She sought shelter from the rain that day, and he invited her into his family’s house.

There he attempted to take advantage of her and strangled her to death afterwards.

Adeleye propped her body up and sent a picture to Ozobia, pretending she was still alive and demanding a N3 million ransom. What followed was a manhunt for the missing girl.

Soldiers from the 174 Battalion caught Adeleye on September 1, and he confessed to the crime a day later.
