In September, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced that NG Eagle will honour flight tickets and refunds for affected Dana Air passengers. Despite this new development, Dana Air has still failed to return N181,500 to Chinaza Eleke (not real name).

Eleke, an accountant residing in Lagos, told FIJ in September that her aged mother and sister travelled from the United States to Owerri for her Thanksgiving in February, but when it was time for them to return to Lagos, Dana Air cancelled their flight abruptly.

Eleke’s Flight Ticket

“We got to the airport and were delayed for several hours. Dana Air delayed the flight for over five hours,” Eleke narrated.

“At the end of the day, they said there would be no flight from Owerri to Lagos that day. We were stranded. All other airlines to Lagos were fully booked. Dana collected our account details and promised to refund within a week.”

Like every other Dana Air customer whose refund is now stuck in limbo, Eleke told FIJ that she had sent numerous to the airline, but only once did they respond that they were processing refunds in batches. Since then, silence!

“Kindly be informed that your request has received attention and payments are in batches” was Dana’s last response to Eleke’s email in July.

FIJ contacted NG Eagle via email on Wednesday about Eleke’s complaint and it said it only handles refunds for customers whose complaints Dana Air directs to it.

“Contrary to public assumptions, NG Eagle Limited does not handle refunds or reprotection for Dana Airlines,” NG Eagle told FIJ.

“For any related requests, please contact Dana Airlines Limited directly. In accordance with established procedures, NG Eagle Limited will only provide assistance to passengers whose details have been formally communicated to us by Dana Airlines Limited, with the knowledge and approval of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), as part of specific reprotection arrangements.

“Passengers not covered under these arrangements are advised to resolve their issues directly with Dana Airlines Limited.”
