FIJ had previously published a report detailing how Akewe, a man between the ages of 30 and 40, lured a 14-year-old girl into his house on Akewe Street, Opeloyeru Bus Stop, Alakuko in Lagos, and raped her.

Akewe’s parents, who were landlords in Alakuko, had attempted to take advantage of the victim’s uneducated parents to bury the case.

He escaped when the police visited the community to arrest him on Tuesday evening. FIJ learnt that some landlords in Alakuko were harbouring him and that the parents of the victim and residents of the community were unwilling to cooperate with the police.
