Bandits terrorising Niger State and its environs have imposed an N11 million levy on farmers.
Security watch reports stated on Friday that the terrorists told farmers residing in villages in the Mariga local government area of Niger to forget about harvesting their crops if they don’t pay an N11 million levy.
The bandits have also demanded motorcycles, food and mobile phones in exchange for villagers they previously abducted in the villages.
These terrorist demands affect farmers from the Dusai, Holobo, Sabon Wurin and Hunyo communities.
This is not the first time bandits would be levying millions of naira on communities.
FIJ has previously reported about Bello Turji, one of Northwest Nigeria’s most notorious bandit and how he levies fees on communities for his kidnapped allies.
