Three policemen attached to the Kwara State Police Command have been dismissed for their involvement in the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a Polytechnic student.

The dismissed officers are Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel and Oni Philip.

According to an update on Tuesday morning from DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state police spokesperson, the men were guilty of leaving the beat, corrupt practices and unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority.

While their dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) took effect on October 4, they are set to be arraigned in court.

The NPF did not state the date of arrangement.

“After a thorough investigation and an internal disciplinary trial, the three officers involved –AP/No 233828 INSPR. Abiodun Kayode, AP/No 287410 INSPR. James Emmanuel, and F/No 497868 SGT. Oni Philip; Consequently, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, with effect from 4th October, 2024. They will be arraigned in court soonest,” stated the spokesperson.

In September, FIJ reported how the police sent the National Diploma (ND) 2 student of the Electrical Engineering department at Kwara State Polytechnic to his early grave.

FIJ learnt that Ishola was out to purchase an item on the evening of September 4 when the policemen stopped and harassed him.

Ishola tried to run from the officers who were harassing him, but an officer’s gun was discharged, and a bullet from the policeman’s firearm hit him. A 10-second video sighted by FIJ revealed an open wound in the deceased student’s arm, pierced by a bullet.
