Ahead of the #EndBadGovernance Protest starting on Thursday, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) management have suspended academic activities within their premises.
According to a statement signed on Wednesday by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the head of the communication unit at Unilag, the ongoing 2023/2024 second semester examinations have been postponed indefinitely.

“In view of reports of the planned protest scheduled for Thursday, August 1, 2024, members of the University Community are hereby advised to remain calm, safe, and security conscious at all locations,” reads Unilag’s statement.
“Please note that all examinations scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2, 2024, are postponed till further notice. A new schedule for all the papers initially listed for these two days will be announced in due course.”
On the other hand, E.J.A. Akinwale, the acting registrar of Yabatech, announced in a circular on Tuesday that academic activities would commence online, beginning from August 1 for a week due to the scheduled protest.

The circular reads: “In view of the need to maintain peace and order on campus, the management, after a series of meetings involving the Academic Board, Principal Officers, and Security Committee, resolved as follows: All lectures for both full-time and part-time students will be held virtually using our various online platforms for the next one week, starting from August 1, 2024.
“Lecturers are expected to attend to students’ needs online and provide support during this period. Students are implored to maintain peace and safety while on campus.”
Earlier on Wednesday, conveners of the protest released a 10-point agenda for the government to address, otherwise the protest would proceed as planned.
