Aero Contractors, a Nigerian commercial airline, has refunded N68,500 to Aishat Arinola (a pseudonym name), a civil servant based in Kastina State, after cancelling her flight in May.

Arinola confirmed receiving the refund from the airline on Thursday, two days after FIJ published a report.

“I have just received this transfer from Aero Contractors. Thank you, FIJ,” Arinola said.

On Wednesday, FIJ reported how Aero Contractors withheld Arinola’s N69,000 10 months after cancelling her flight.

The civil servant was scheduled to travel from Kano to Lagos. However, the airline said her trip was cancelled due to “operational reasons”.

She then went ahead to fill out several refund forms but her money was still stuck.

“My flight on May 5 from Kano to Lagos was cancelled by Aero Contractors due to technical reasons,” Arinola told FIJ.

“I have filled out several online refund request forms, but they have yet to refund my money. It is almost a year, and I don’t want to lose my money. My flight PNR is 15FBAF.”

FIJ sent an email to the airline on Monday asking when Arinola should expect her refund but they only said it was still being processed.

Arinola subsequently received her refund in less than 48 hours after FIJ’s report.
