Policemen attached to the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, Area ‘M’ in Ijegun, Ikotun, Lagos State, have returned the N226,500 they stole from some residents on Saturday.

FIJ reported earlier how the policemen rammed their vehicle into another vehicle on Saturday afternoon, damaging the bumper and a brake light.

Following this incident, the occupants were taken into custody. One of the victims was Israel James.

James told FIJ that the police held him and his brother from noon till night when his aunt and her husband arrived to bail them.

With video evidence, he was able to show the policemen at the scene of the accident and capture a voice saying, “See am, see am for here. Dem break the light, the bumper, too.”

After FIJ’s report, the Lagos Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU) called to say it had invited the erring policemen to the State Command in Ikeja.

On Monday morning, James called FIJ to say one of the policemen showed up to return the money.

“He came, apologised and handed the money in full to my brother,” James told FIJ. “Thank you very much, sir.”
